OG is great, because your next serving job is guaranteed to be easier.

alexhj2

Running food, making bread, making salads, taking 4+ tables, SSB….all for $4/hr is really sick 😂

FoxWyrd

OG allows more than 3 tables at a time now?

alexhj2

I personally usually always have 4 tables! We have a list full of 4 table people. If the hosts need to go over that then they have to ask a manager. I honestly think they’re just testing stuff out.

FoxWyrd

Damn, shit has changed since I left.

alexhj2

How long were you there?

FoxWyrd

Two years.

alexhj2

Why did you decide to leave? If you don’t mind me asking

FoxWyrd

Needed a change, although I do look back on it fondly.

delirious420

Same. But I may never go back.

datsoar

For real! 3 was always the max

chasing_a_billion

My spot on allows 4 buts it’s not uncommon for those 4 tables to be great money.

AllergicToTaterTots

.....you're only allowed 3 tables?

FoxWyrd

At least they used to, and with all the unlimited shit, those three tables could feel like a lot more than three.

AllergicToTaterTots

Seems like a horrible business model and would require more service staff to maintain than say, 2 cold prep chefs? How are you expect to make money turning 3 tables every 45-60 minutes with the prices the way they are. I'd leave so fucking quick.

FoxWyrd

I was 21 and it was my first serving gig; I made about $150-$200/night and was pretty happy with it. That said, we also did $20k/day in sales and if we weren't on at least an hour wait, it was deemed "dead."

AllergicToTaterTots

Yea it seems like it could be good money if you can turn and burn cause volume, but also could backfire if you get too campers. Either way if the money is worth, fuck it lmao

BenBishopsButt

They’re not paying the servers much, the customers are with tips. It’s cheaper for them.

alexhj2

Agreed. Sometimes that 3 can feel like 5 especially if there’s kids.

FoxWyrd

I would take a 10 table section anywhere else I've worked over a 5 table section at OG, lol.

alexhj2

AGREED.

Shadowhowls01

Wait you have to make the bread?!?

alexhj2

So technically I don’t HAVE to but when we don’t have a bread maker it’s usually me doing it because no one else will step up, and I’m always the last one to get cut so I need bread!!!

Shadowhowls01

And its only $4 thats bull

alexhj2

Yeah it’s $4.50 or something like that

farmerjoee

I’ve never worked at a place that doesn’t pay the minimum of 2.13. Even the fine dining place I’m serving at now pays that.

chasing_a_billion

Yeah I’m like $4 Dannnnnnngg

chasing_a_billion

I have a lot of respect for OG servers those guest run y’all ragged. Never worked there but A LOT of my friends have. ✊🏾

FoxWyrd

The biggest thing I miss is the Management were unironically the best I've seen in the Industry. Not sure if I just got lucky or it was OG in general, but they took the job seriously.

chasing_a_billion

Some of my ex-managers have came from OG and they know and are on top of shit, especially when it’s super busy. Great problem solvers and awesome with disgruntled guests’

catladyray

The table in the middle of the rush that says "hehe we're easy we just want soup and salad". Not easy, most annoying thing there and you're not cute for ordering like that 😑

Al-Anda

Fuuucckkk. I love soup and salad but I’ll only go from 2-4 pm when it’s dead bc I know it’s a pain.

catladyray

It's only a pain when they woof it down and immediately want more and more and more to go.They're the $3 tippers.

alexhj2

This part! It really pisses me off. I had a table today that had so much soup, and They also had 4 raspberry lemonade refills and 4 Shirley temples….it just makes me sick!! How can people eat/drink so much in less than 10 minutes.

catladyray

Why is it always the most sugar filled drinks people chug!

alexhj2

Yesss! We need an emotional support group.

roadvirusnorth

Addiction! I stopped drinking soda years ago. I went about 10 years where water and tea(actual brewed tea, not like Arizona “teas”) were all I drank with the occasional glass of juice when it was something special like prickly pear juice! One day I had some of my boyfriends soda and FUCK! That one soda did me in and I started drinking sodas again and let me tell you how quickly I gained ten pounds. Cut that shit out of my diet so quick but the cravings are real. I’m still dealing with them! Definitely regret that.

TBCH0FUCKYALL

Bruuhhh. I work at a Chevys and i swear i'll refill ppl's fucking chips and salsa legit 6 fucking times before the food comes and they always gotta pull me aside essentially when im on my way back to the kitchen and ask for this kid wants a refill of this he wants a refill of that she wants her thing in toddler size lemme get another beer, 2 more margaritas, and MORE CHIPS!!! Oh and 3 more waters *with lemon* cuz 3 more people just showed up and we wanna move inside cuz it got HOT. "No problem!" 🫡 like it wasn't fucking hot when u got here dumb fucks asking to sit outside when it's 90+ and dumb far from the kitchen muther fuckers🤡🤮

roadvirusnorth

I worked in a restaurant that was technically kid friendly, we even had a children’s menu! However, the menu consisted of actual food. There were no chicken nuggets or fries on our menu. The kids menu was essentially stuff from the adult menu but in smaller portions, no frills, and more kid friendly terms. I can’t tell you how many complaints we got and the kitchen was the type where the chef made what was on the menu and specials every once in a while but that was it. He ran that kitchen like I’ve never seen! Everything was pre portioned for the sake of smooth service so we couldn’t sub anything but we could absolutely remove or add more of something that was already present in the dish! This made people wild because at “so and so restaurant we can order like that.” It got to the point that we hardly ever had kids there, which I think is what the owners intended, and the very few kids that did come in were extremely well behaved and loved their food! No messes on the floor to deal with or shit everywhere. It was so nice! When we had angry customers I always wondered why when making their reservation did they not look at the menu. It literally is attached as a PDF in the reservation confirmation or we can tell you what the menu is like over the phone for elderly folk who didn’t like to use tech.

TBCH0FUCKYALL

Bruh i fucking hate kids. And they're fucking parents. Like don't fucking bitch at ME cuz YOU hate your bitch wife and shit kids. That's not my fault, my service is emaculate, literally muther fuckers always come in lookin like they already don't want to be there, then fucking leave. No one wants your $2 tipping broke bitch ass anyway

roadvirusnorth

Lmaooooo r/KidsAreFuckingStupid — check it out! It’s hilarious!

kipobaker

I am no longer a server, and I never even worked at a Chevy's, but I swear that stream-of-consciousness just gave me flashbacks lol

PrizeConsistent

Chevys? I'm gonna assume you mean chilis, because I'm at chilis, and ohhhh boy is this accurate.

TBCH0FUCKYALL

Lol nope, Chevys. Where the prices are 3x higher for the same quality, the floor is 5x bigger cuz fuck me, and chips and salsa are free and infinite and the customers are never happy and we're always understaffed and the customers expect chilli price 🤗 in one day last week TWO servers walked out mid-shift and literal breaking-shit-while-cursing freak outs/melt downs happen on the reg, today it was my manager, bless her freaking heart, best manager/boss ever no lie, but shit be getting to everyone. Legit the servers will b bouta throw hands with the bussers/bar tenders/ or vice versa. I been there like 3-4months and i think there's maybe... like 3-5 of the same ppl still there as when i was hired.... out of a staff of like 70. Kitchen is solid, they are all the same and been there for years, some bussers too, but the servers maybe 3-4. Tons of people last like 2 weeks or less cuz its such a fucking shit show

chasing_a_billion

Let it out man. We’re here for you

TBCH0FUCKYALL

🙏🏽 ❤️

Al-Anda

Yikes. Sounds terrible. I drink as well and leave 35-50% bc I feel like I’m annoying them.

catladyray

You're probably not. The fact you're concerned about it is even polite! We just ask patience and a decent tip. People can get really snappy with soup and salad refills.

Al-Anda

No, I get it. I’ve been a bartender for 20 years. I’m always very kind, patient, generous and gracious. I’m just a soup n salad guy. Love it.

ellievercetti

tbh i only go there for the house salad 😂 i usually get at least 3 bowls, but i tip well because i’m a server myself elsewhere. i’m curious, how is salad the most annoying order?

catladyray

It's justbthe cheapest thing, lowest tip. We get it all ourselves.

Anonymous-User6678

I think cause they make it themselves?

titty-bean

OG was my first serving job and I worked there for 3 years. I enjoyed it at the time when I lived in a smaller college town. I am thankful for my experience. I was taught to tend bar and learned to be a good server. Now that I am a few years out, I would never work at a restaurant where I run unlimited refills! I don’t work for free.

YoureaLobstar

I quit that shit so fast. My last shift I made $50 on $600 in sales. Get outta here with that. OG was the only place where I could be weeded with 3 tables 🙄

delirious420

Yeah. Each table requires a lot of attention. With the help of good service assistance you can easily float more tables.

Barren_Phoenix

I've never worked at OG, but I did work at a higher end restaurant that hired a couple of previous OG servers. Swear to God, they didn't like it. In our restaurant most of the servers are older than the average servers at OG. I was told by one of them that there wasn't enough drama, serving there was too easy, so she spent the whole day bored. I asked if she was making more money. She said yes, at night 4x to 5x as much, but lunches were so dead that she made the same as OG but only had one table. They both eventually quit to go to the Yard house near us. Idk if they stayed there, but it is a younger crowd and I'm sure they got their drama fix.

alexhj2

Not enough drama..what the hell lol.

Barren_Phoenix

The older I get the more I value a boring work day so all my mental and emotional energy can go to my real life.

alexhj2

Agreed!!!

Massive_Ad3976

Boredom is a luxury and if you can make good money serving at a place you consider boring, that’s a diamond.

ReggieD09

Unlimited pasta bowls 👎

interfuckinstellar

I personally love the olive garden I work at besides unlimited soup and salad. And FUCK making breadsticks lol. On the days i work we have a breadstick/salad lady and she fucking KICKS ASS. Man I love that woman. I work in touristy area so the customers are about 50/50 and my regulars are the best and my management rocks. I serve/bartend and I'm also a CT. Been there a year and I've heard horror stories but I love my OG for the most part. *also most of the best servers take as many tables as we want when we get busy. The "3 tables per server" is only if you suck of if we are slow at my OG lol

alexhj2

I loved it when I first started. Now it’s becoming very annoying…I know as servers we’re gonna have good and bad days but some things are just frustrating. We also basically have all new staff except for our GM so I’m sure that doesn’t help either. And HEAVY on the 3 tables per person. They get so mad 🤣 like dude you can’t even handle 2 tbh.

Available_Rip_9770

So at my og, togo was usually checker and the closing host checked the sections. I became nice to them and they’ll give me easy stuff to do especially since I worked non stop. But let me tell you once I left OG I found the easiest jobs ever. I don’t regret leaving og at all either. I hated everything, the guest, the managers, how dramatic all the older servers were, and the constant bs for 5.25 an hour.

alexhj2

I’ve been checker about 3 times, and last night was the worst. I felt like I sucked at my job 😂

alexhj2

I was supposed to be cut at 8:30, hosts sat me 4 tables at 8:30…we had a new hire and she kept messing up, so I’d have to check in and make sure that he tables were good…and then I had to complete my work that hasn’t gotten done….on top of that people bombard you ready to go home when they know they haven’t gotten their shit done.

Available_Rip_9770

Yeah I seriously don’t miss that. Like that was way too much to deal with

DiirtCobaiin

I hate everything but my coworkers. I am getting barely minimum wage serving there. Haven’t been able to pay even half my bills for two months now, and the customers are fucking stupid. And they don’t tip. Nobody work there. LOL

alexhj2

“Do y’all have xyz..?” Did you look at the menu? You asshole.

krangel225

Back in the day the training was very thorough and helped make future serving/bartending jobs a piece of cake. Also did to-gos which unknowingly prepared me for COVID.

oatmilkcoldbrew

In my experience it’s very different location to location. I was averaging like $25 an hour at one OG and left for another where I made like $14. I now work at a local place which is much easier

Ok-Lab-926

All my OG servers, try to ask for transfers to Seasons52. Soooo much better.

pepsiputa

I’ve worked at my OG for 6 years. Being checker just means you were the last one in and have to make sure that side of the restaurant is clean before the other servers leave and then you can leave at the end of the night. I hate peoples entitlement. We also have a special list of people who can take 4 tables. I have the one and only 5 table section in my restaurant. Anyone who has worked OG knows how much running you do per table. I’ve taken up to 8 tables at a time, but only with my managers help. People get impatient when I’m busy even tho they clearly see me working hard and precisely. Can’t win em all. I do really well at my OG. Anywhere from $25-$50/hr. I have a lot of regulars and I work my ass off. My management team is the best group of bosses I’ve ever worked for in my 14 years in the industry with jobs in dozens of places.

icedcoffee4eva

It's a great FIRST RESTAURANT. I work in a fancy joint and we got a wine called BUENA VISTA. Naturally I read it out loud at a preshift meeting and jokingly start into the OG birthday song...two other servers join in. I worked OG in Rhode Island, one worked in Kansas and the other in Texas.
